So you get to the airport and realize your vape pen or other equipment is still in your pocket, what do you do? Should you throw it out or pay to have it shipped back home? Well, the answer is neither because you can take it with you!
According to the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) website you are able to bring all electronic cigarettes or vaporizers onto the plane but it cannot be in your checked luggage. You will have to make sure that you place your vaping equipment in your carry-on luggage and go through the security checkpoints as normal.
If you are checking your carry-on luggage at the departure gate, make sure to remove all vapor equipment from your bag before checking it. It is illegal to check most vape equipment to your final destination and/or to try and conceal that you have one. It is not illegal to bring your vape pen or liquids with you on the plane so there is no need to hide it.
According to the TSA website the following vape equipment must not be placed in any checked luggage:
- Battery-powered E-cigarettes
- vape pens
- electronic nicotine delivery systems
However, there are a few very specific pieces of vape equipment that you can put in your checked luggage. Vape batteries, chargers, vape juice and some vape building tools are allowed in your checked luggage. It is encouraged you put the vape juice in your checked luggage to abide by TSA’s carry-on liquid laws. While most vape juices do not exceed 3.4 ounces, it is always best to err on the side of caution when it comes to flying regulations. You would hate to have to throw out your vape juice at security because the volume of liquid violates an airport’s liquids rule.
You will also want to pack any vapor build tools in your checked luggage as well. It is forbidden to bring anything that might be used as a weapon on an airplane. Since some vapor building tools are small, sharp and/or pointy, you might run the risk of having them confiscated if you try to bring them through security. To be safe it would be best to pack anything that could be considered a prohibited item in your checked luggage. If you still have questions you can always refer to the TSA website or call the airline or airport to double-check that no new rules or regulations have been put into effect.
Just like regular cigarettes and smoking devices, you are not permitted to smoke while on the airplane or in the airport. You can however smoke your vaporizer in the designated areas in or around the airport. Even if the effects of secondhand smoke are not as serious when using a vape, it is still best to be considerate of the people around you.
